How a sail acts on a boat
Now that we've seen how a sail produces a force, the next most important thing to learn is how this force is transmitted to the boat
As seen before, the force produced by a sail is perpendicular to the plane of the sail
Now, if you remember your physics classes from school ( hopefully... ), you might remember that a force vector can be split, for better understanding, into its "component forces"
On a sail, this means that there is one component toward the front of the boat ( blue ) and another sideways ( red )
